Charged with Rape in North Central Ohio?
Get solid defense from a Mansfield sex offense lawyer!
Being convicted of a crime can destroy your future-especially if you are accused of a crime that is as serious as rape. Individuals who are convicted of rape are not only sent to prison and faced with other harsh penalties, but they are also required to register as sex offenders. This means that the person's sex offense conviction is made public, which usually causes the individual a great amount of hardship when it comes to finding a job, securing housing or even living a normal life after serving his or her time.
Were you arrested for an alleged rape? If so, you need to act as quickly as possible to get a skilled attorney on your side. If at all possible, it is even best to hire an attorney prior to the official filing of the charges, such as during the investigation and pre-indictment stage. I am a Mansfield criminal defense attorney who is qualified to handle some of the most challenging criminal charges, including rape charges. I bring a unique level of skill to the cases that I handle, especially since I have served as both a criminal defense attorney and a felony prosecutor during my law career. I am an experienced trial lawyer who has tried several sex offense cases to a jury. In one instance, a client who faced life in prison for rape was acquitted outright of all charges. The sooner you pick up the phone and call my firm, the sooner I can start defending your freedom!
What is considered rape?
According to the Ohio Revised Code (O.R.C. ยง2907.02), there are several different ways that rape can occur. Here's an overview:
- Using force or threat of force to make someone engage in sexual conduct with the offender against his or her will
- Giving the victim a drug, intoxicant or controlled substance for the purpose of preventing resistance and then engaging in sexual conduct with that victim
- Engaging in sexual conduct with someone who is unable to provide consent, such as someone who has a physical or mental impairment or someone who is too advanced in age to be able to resist or consent
- Engaging in sexual conduct with someone who is under 15 years of age (whether or not the offender knows the victim's age)
In the state of Ohio, rape is classified as a first-degree felony. Depending on the type of rape that allegedly occurred and other details of the allegations, a person convicted of rape can spend anywhere from just a few years to life without parole in prison. With penalties that are this serious, you cannot afford to move forward in your case without the help of a strong legal defender!
